Talking about politics has become a high-risk sport in my country. It can cost you a lifelong friendship or spark a family feud. That made me think about politics the way those who practice it seem to understand it: as a game, a game that pretends to reward strategy when it's actually ruled by chance.
By 2022, Colombia's government had solidified a recognizable left-wing bloc while, for the first time in years, a structured right-wing opposition had also emerged. The country's political landscape could now be drawn, for the most part, as two opposing camps, dramatically deepening polarization.
I created this Yu-Gi-Oh! deck inspired by Colombian politics to make political conversations a little less tense, and to highlight a simple idea: in politics, there are rarely heroes and villains—only rival factions, each determined to take control in their own way.
